The railroad district is located midtown San Luis Obispo and is a very sought-after community because of its proximity to the downtown area. This section of town is protected from the winds that blow in from the ocean which makes the climate nice and temperate all year round. It's also one of the last places for ocean fogs to find.
The homes that are located in this area are typically mid-priced homes from around $400,000 up to about a million. There are not a lot of starter homes here, but it's not an area with a great many luxury mansions or estate homes, either. Typically you'll find a mixture of lofts and bungalows that young professionals love. This makes it an active community with walking and biking popular just about everywhere. Homes range from around 1000 to 3000 sq ft., and offer some new development as well as largers lots and mature neighborhoods. Both contemporary and Spanish-style homes are plentiful.
The Railroad District is close to the Amtrak station, and home to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. Locals enjoy walking to the nearby restaurants such as Cafe Roma, Sally Loo's Wholesome Cafe, the Del Monte Cafe, and Gus's Grocery. Nearby Morro Rd is a very bicycle-friendly street, and Triangle Park is convenient to enjoy.
